Warhammer Online Return to Reckoning review

Ok,  This is running on a private server for free ( yes zouji..free ).  

It runs fantastic with only a little hitching when there are greater than 400 players ( yes 10x the max Conan players ).  At one time during a special event to test server load they had over 1000 ( 1120 ) players in the t1 empire zone and it ran fine except of a few  hitches ( I was running at full ultra settings )  The servers they have running it are at least 40x more powerful than the 2008 servers.  The new developers have been working on this as a labor of love and have been very hands on.

They have revamped the old tier system so that tier 1 is 1-15 and anyone above 15 is tossed into the final tier so that you as a lvl 16 player are fighting  with everyone else. This may be daunting for scenarios but for open RVR ( which is where the game really shines ) its not so bad because there are open warbands of 24 players and  you are somewhat protected and you get bolstered to a level that is appropriate.   The top RVR rank is 235 although I dont think you get anything past the original limit of 80.

They have also changed the capture mechanics so that where there are no keeps ( t1 ) you have to run supplies back from the capture points to a rally flag near your war camp and then when you reach 100% you then have to capture ALL of the points ( t1 only ).  this leads to some great games of smear the queer, until 100% and then its the mad push and capture.

Once you get to career level  (class ) level 10 you are good to go in open RVR. After that its all RVR all the time unless there are no warbands operating ( so you do a little pve ).

After lvl 15 its open rvr all the time , although for the highest tier fort and city you really need to be 40 career/ 40 renown because the spots are limited go in paring ( think of a large scenario with 200 players v.s. 30 ) and multiple instances.

After T1 the new mechanic is take supplies from the capture points until your keep is level 2-3 and then spawn a RAM at your keep and drive it with escort to the enemy keep.  Bang down the walls, kill the defenses ( oil weapons etc ) and murder the Keep lord.  After that capture the majority of the points and you lock.  Gone are the days of the rotating keep capture merry-go-round. 

 The war camps have a lot of new quests ( kill x race of players, keep capture, visit key points ) so that you gain a ton of xp.  When you are in a warband the xp, influence ( of special gear in the zone ) renown and of course the kill coins ( currency for killing players. Spendable on more gear etc ) pours in.

This has been some of the best open world pvp and mass pvp ( 400+ players ) I've fought in for years.
