Origin of "FEF"
#1
I wonder if people still use this term. "FEF". At one time it was in widespread use on Vallon Zek and I'm sure I recall seeing someone use it in Asherson's Call 2, as well.

That was a term coined by Mercenary. I helped.

Mercenary was kind of a feeb. He thought he was way more awesome than he really was. I think in his mind, he was like a lone wolf pirate, dangerous and mysterious. In my mind, he was more like Inspector Clouseau.

So I encountered him in my favorite dungeon: Guk. Small windey passageways, lots of non-threatening low level creatures, it's a great place to just run around in.

So me and him had a fight. We must have both been around level 40.

Back and forth, we went at each other, but I was winning by a good bit.

When a level 4 monster sees a level 40 character, it wisely chooses to ignore them, since attacking would be suicidal.

Unless, of course, the level 40 character only has 10 hit points left. Then the monster figures this is its big shot at fame and glory. If monsters ever went out to bars on weekends, somewhere there would be a level 4 froglok still telling this tale.

So Mercenary is nearly dead. He's doing everything he can to get away from me at this point, but on his way to the exit one of these level 4 monsters sees how close to dead he is and takes a swipe.

Yep. Mercenary, level 40 big headed shadowknight, dies to a level 4 froglok that any newbie could have wrestled to the ground with one hand behind their back.

I did what any respectable citizen would do. I took a screenshot and posted it on the internet.

I made sure to highlight the message Mercenary sent me:

Mercenary tells you: "fuc en fag"

I guess he wasn't happy.

And so a new term was born. That is the origin of the term "FEF".

I remember a big fight in the Swamp outside the Troll city (been so long, i'm forgetting names) between a variety of guilds. One of the Prophets top 'chanters (i wish i had better memory) was down to just a few HP... ya know, when you can only walk around and not even run.

People were running over to finish him off when he suddenly fell over dead. No, not to a DoT but we noticed the text scroll by in the bottom corner of our screen.

That very fight is what gave him the brilliant idea which got him banned for good.

I still remember that screen shot and still use that term even at work.

I want to say that the abbreviation was coined by Filash on the old Vault Vallon board. But I am not absolutely positive it was him.

I agree, this 'idea' sounds intresting.
You don't win the Game of Death by dying first. The name is misleading.

Nostalgia is great. Smile I forgot so many names though. Sad Who was that really funny guy that would post stories? I think his name began with a Z? Or maybe an F? I know, too vague. Sorry.

I played on VZ, a perpetual lowbie in Shanks. I spent most of my EQ time as Kattria on Prexus in Raduk's guild, though. He'd been talking about this guild for some time so I started looking at the realm forums to see what the server was like. I play WoW but mostly on Stormrage, and again, I am a perpetual lowbie. I did make a bunch of characters on Crushridge to see what I might like to play.

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many familiar names and that y'all still don't condone cross teaming. Y'all rock. Smile

So who here were Shanks? Smile

I wasn't a Shank, but I was a Barbarian, best EQ race ever. And I remember the passionate arguments for and against crossteaming. PvP and death had so much more impact in EQ.

Say hello ingame sometime. I don't think we interacted much in EQ, but I recall your name on the old days on the VN board. I have a lowbie that I play a lot right now, named Slipp. She's a rogue of course.

Man I remember fighting the shanks all the time in Highpass. Generally very good fights, but normally a decently long CC afterwards if I died.

I still miss those early days on VZ. They were the most fun.

I destroyed Vallon Zek. The fact that I was a purist is merely coincidental.

I loved the Shanks, we had an uneasy truce with them for a long time and Red Shirts still has members to this day in it. Vllad and I still get tells from people that detested Red Shirts.

Red Shirts are on Lightingblade in WOW. (theres even a quest to get a red shirt in the Elwynn forest for lowbies.

My next concept guild will be all female Pallys called <Drama Queens>
