actually cartoons look awesome, I have some of the classic disney stuff for my kid on BluRay and the clarity is amazing. Beyond that, if you own a BluRay player, why would you get the DVD? The interface and different options of interactivity on BluRay is in a different league than DVD. And BluRays are more resistant to scratching.

Cartoons and 3d animation are made for High Def.

I wish I could say that for live action. The first time I watched the Dark Knight on Blu-Ray and Maggie Gyllenhaal popped on screen I was glad I got the disc as a Christmas present and didn't have to pay for it myself.

Really breand? I might have to check one out. Dadio has the whole package and I've never got a blueray cartoon before. Also I didn't know they were more resistant to scratching.

I'm assuming because of the detail on the face mori?

Yeah, I mentioned in that TV thread that my new HD TV might actually be *too* good. It's hard to put my finger on the exact reason, but the high level of detail can be distracting. It reminds me of watching old Dr. Who episodes, where the flaws in lighting and set design were all too obvious. Take a new show that doesn't have that problem and watch it in HD and bam, there's that problem again. Stargate: Atlantis in particular I think I might actually like better in standard definition.

However, CGI and animation always looks awesome in HD. So much crisper, and rather than bringing out flaws, I think it tends to help it come across as the artist intended.

That said, in my experience, things I enjoyed as a kid are often a lot less enjoyable when I buy them on DVD and go back to watch them. Always a big feeling of "I really used to like this?"

Yeah Slamz. The only thing I really enjoy in High Def on T.V. are sports. High Def makes the action look more real, like you are really there. All the details add to the illusion.

Anything else on T.V., especially involving indoor sets, and the realism of High Definition takes away from the illusion.

Yeah, TV generally doesn't have the budget to look that good in HD.

Also, the thought of HD porn kinda makes me shudder.... There are things low resolution improves, and I imagine that would be one of them.

I think BSG looks like dogshit in Hi-Def, they use such low lighting in all their scenes that it gets all granulated looking. On the Flip side, Lost looks awesome.
