Have you not been following the situation? Chinese government hacked Google to find names/info/proof of dissidents using Gmail, which will be imprisoned and/or killed. Google is going to be the first Western company to say 'fuck you' to all of China's censorship and government control rules. This is huge. This could the first step as part of a revolution.

You've already seen how twitter has helped facilitate protest and likely revolution in Iran, do you think China is just going to sit back and let this happen to them as well?

This is information warfare, that is going to get much more intense.

It's always easy to see the current situation as being dramatic in some way. I see it more like natural disasters. You know we're due for one it's just a matter of when and how.

If Google blew up tomorrow it wouldn't even effect the US let alone China. It barely has 20k employee's.

China could care less what the US thinks and we have 10,000 nukes. What makes you think they give a shit what a search engine company thinks?

China isn't a free country and isn't going to be one anytime soon. They aren't going to go the way the USSR did. They are economically viable and short of a very very bloody change China will remain as is.

Unless Google is going to spend there 1.4 billion on guns they can't do shit.

In the end I think Google will cave and end up being China's little bitch because that is where the money is. Corporations make bad revolutionaries because quite frankly there is no money in it unless you sell arms.

You forget that Google = America = Western culture. Corporations are the largest threat to China's stability because they represent and foster freedom/intelligence etc....ideas that threaten Chinas chokehold on freedom and their stability.

The more access Chinese people have to the rest of the world the more they will realize how bad their country sucks and want to change it.

To get those people towards our lifestyle will take more resources thus hampering our lifestyle, so maybe its for the best they stay as peasants...

I wonder if they will. Or more importantly if they see an actual long term business future in China. My take on China, is they feel everyone is their bitch and will use them until they implement their own solution. I wouldn't be surprisedm if the hack that took place was to steal Google technology rather than catch dissidents.

this reminds me of the only funny SNL skit in recent memory:

Any criticisms we have towards China can be laughed off when considering the tremendous amount of our debt they hold. We need China a lot more than they need us. So for American companies to take some sort of moral high road, seems kind of silly to me.

Google is an information and data company. They dont really need business from a country with insane censorship laws. With all the special rules they have to work around, they are probably not anywhere near the profitability of other 'free' nations.

We dont NEED China. The American government needs China because people keep electing socialist spending assholes
