mine says nothing except "U.S. ARMY SURVIVAL MANUAL" on the first page. most of the book is printed in black ink on regular paper, but almost the entire appendix is printed in color on glossy paper, except for the first 6 pages or so of appendix A.

I guess I'll just assume I have the 1991 version, and that the 1994 copyright refers to the presentation rather than the content.

Hmm, I don't know. I would just download this one and compare it: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/21-76-1/fm_21-76-1survival.pdf

Too bad we live in the four corners of this country and in other ones. If shit were to go down I'd feel pretty good starting up a barter town with you all. We could call it Purgatoria.

I have a buddy in AZ with a totally self-sufficient cabin w/ solar power.

So what's in your survival kit? I'd actually like to put one of those together myself. I'm thinking camoflauge tent, sleeping bags, water canteens and water purifying tablets, survival guide, warm waterproof clothes, ponchos, matches and magnifying glass to start campfires, combat knife, compass, first aid supplies, fishing line and hooks, candles, walkie talkies...what else?

I am at a dead end in persuading my wife to let me get a gun. Best option might be to be bury one in a chest in the West Virginia wilderness, so I can race to it at need...

I'll post or email you my list. Its still a work in progress but it's something I've been fine tuning for years.

Slamz, do you think we could have another forum spun off for serious Survival and "Off the Grid" living discussion? I really enjoy those forums on ar15.com but would much rather discuss this topic with people I have a history with.

Topics would include but not be limited to :

Survival Gear
Outdoor Living
Gardening/Raising Livestock
Sustainable Energy
Emergency/Disaster Planning

You might upgrade to GPS but I'd keep the map. Who knows how accurate or in what state the satellite array will be during your emergency.

I don't plan on ditching the map but rather enhancing my navigation ability with the GPS. This bag is also my camping/hiking bag so 99% of the time it's used in non-emergency capacities.

Which pack? The pocket size? medium? large?

The large pack can get up to 60 pounds and I have only taken it on 3 day Appalachian trail style trips.

Yes.

It's also part of my "I don't want to depend too much on technology" plan.
