Their subscription model has allowed them to do the programming they do without worrying about changing it to appease advertisers or them having to give a shit about nielson ratings. Its the reason they kept the Wire, the best show ever made, on for 5 seasons despite lackluster ratings.
And as a result, their shows are the best on TV.
