Back on Topic, Went to see Star trek tonight.

It was.... ok.

Good movie, but I think I had higher expectations. And it had some huge leaps of faith as far as story line and such.

God I hate time travel. Like First Contact, if the borg can time travel why didnt they just go back into time before they even entered the solar system and the enterprise had a chance to stop them.

Thinking about taking my 6 year old who really got into Star Wars and some other SciFi stuff. Is it appropriate for him? Would he be entertained?

I can't think of any time in the star trek shows/movies it is done appropriately.

There is no over use of T&A or foul language.. Only one "steamy" scene with Kirk and another cadet. But it is short and tasteful.

No real traumatic scenes or gross violence. If he was okay through Star Wars, he should be in good shape for this movie. It is more geared for Adults than the Star War's movies however. So there may not be as much that appeals to him. But there are few chars and moments I think he will enjoy. Plus who doesn't like Lasers and PewPew space fights? ILM does an awesome job with the special effects and space scenes.



PS: I agree about the Time Travel. I like how the Time Travel helped sell this movie to a broader fan base, but am sick of Time Travel being used in stories. Star Trek usually being the worst when it comes to applying it. Though this movie was probably their best attempt to date.

I've set the bar pretty low for what I actually censor Aaron from. The occasional boob or short intimate scene doesn't concern me. On screen violence as well doesn't concern me as long as it's not too graphic in nature like excessive torture. I make point of teaching him the difference between screen violence and real violence. I'm more concerned with the action. Does it flow well? Are there long stretches that may lose his attention?

I really enjoyed the new Star Trek movie. I thought it was a great fresh start to a classic Sci-Fi genre. Certainly, a better take than the last 3 Star War's movies that came out.

The time travel thing was done well I thought. I mean yeah it was there but it wasn't made to be yeah everyone's doing it...

I thought the new Kirk did a good job, and portrayed Kirk a bit different than Shatner...but is that really a bad thing?

Yea and this one was no different... They basically reset the star trek universe so they can make new movies and not have to worry about historical inaccuracies.

I liked the new star trek a lot. I didnt think the story required a huge leap of faith. The time travel is not done hap-hazardly and was used in a creative way to create the back story without having to stick to everything that we already know will happen.

In addition I saw it in Imax and it was spectacular eye candy.

So, hi. As a huge Star Wars nerd...ahem, and never seeing any Star Trek except for a few The Next Generations, I was very impressed with this movie. They claimed they wanted to bring in non fanbois, and, well, it worked swimmingly.

This movie was not much better than a good season finale. Episode 3 kicks the crap outta this movie.

As tasteful as a scene showing half naked Kirk practically dry humping a green chick in panties and a bra can be. I loved that scene myself because it plays right into the classic long running joke.

Really, just cover the kids eyes for 45 seconds and it's done.
