I'm still waiting for...
*whisper* For the Nights Watch <stab>

I think it is gonna be Ollie the steward kid that does it.
Well Zouj, given how far they've strayed from the books it *might* not even happen. Although I doubt it, they're hinting at it already.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Jakensama - 06-01-2015

I am wondering why they are on the north side of the wall in the preview for next weeks... Also, this episode taught that only three things can stop a rampaging army of the undead: Dragonglass, Valyrian steel, and 6 to 10 inches of shallow water.
Yep, Sam just told Ollie last night that he should do it in the season finale.
Last night was the difference between a Benioff/Weiss written episode and everyone else.

That scene with the dead kids was heartbreaking and made Walking Dead seem silly. Running those undead off of the cliffs shows a dedication to winning that is pretty hard to beat. It clearly defines why the wall is 700 feet high.

It will be hard watching Dorne action again after an episode like that.

Well there ha go. They don't need a wall. They need a fricken moat!

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Zouji - 06-02-2015

They let the living go so they could go and piss themselves. They always leave some alive to spread the fear in advance of there army.

The raising of the arms at the end when the dead arise again, was basically the White Walker saying, "Yeah you killed one of my bitches, so what? Come at me bro"

A moat isn't going to help assuming the wights are no different from the books. Wights can fight in the water and did so at Hardhome in the books. Since they have been treated in the show the same as the books I just assume the Night King stopped the pursuit. As Zouji says, they do tend to leave survivors.

That is a good question. The port of Eastwatch is behind the wall. I suppose it could be faster to approach Castle Black from the wall side since behind the wall is described as an area full of hills.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Vllad - 06-04-2015

It is fansinating what people take a liking to and how much good casting plays such a key role on the success of your characters. Their is a buzz on every board and general agreement from most GOT fans that they really liked Karsi and was hoping she was going to remain on the show. That didn't click for myself but I think most people thought they found the new Ygritt. Similiar to the Oberyn situation, this is how quickly you can go from minor characters to someone people are attached to very qucikly.

I was thinking about Jakes comment about starting new characters in the penultimate season that I suppose if done correctly does have some chance for success however remote.

This didn't happen for anyone that was cast for Dorne. I guess when you cast based on the quality of your breast rather then the fit for the role that is what happens. It makes you wonder how the same people can cast some roles so perfectly and others just crash and burn?

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Jakensama - 06-04-2015

Haha yeah I didn't get the Karsi thing (did it ever even say her name). I mean, she was fine, but how could you possibly even think she was going to live past the episode after seeing her say goodbye to her kids?

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Vllad - 06-05-2015

I was reading up on the ratings of GOT and apparently the Sansa rape episode was the lowest rating the show ever received and the week after was almost as bad. Hardhome was one of the highest rated they ever had.

I am unclear how that is possible? I would think that the subsequent shows after the Sansa rape episode would take all of the hits not that episode directly.

If the ratings were diving how is it all those viewers showed up again on what was probably the best GOT episode ever?

I suppose it is entirely possible that the Dorne stuff the week before the Sansa rape episode is what is really hurting the show but why do people show back up for Hardhome? Maybe like myself the book readers knew something happened at Hardhome so they tuned in to see if they showed that but is that really enough to turn it into some of their best ratings ever?

Either ratings calculations are suspect, they got plain lucky or viewers have esp. Either way given the cost of the show Hardhome might have saved GOT given the way the ratings were looking.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Jakensama - 06-05-2015

I think it takes into account On Demand and later viewings too - so all the bad press from the Sansa Rape one hurt it, and all the "OMG Best Episode Ever" press from Hardhome probably increased it.

Also, the episode after the rape scene was a holiday weekend which I'm sure hurt ratings a bit too (depending on how long the window for viewership was).

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Zouji - 06-08-2015

Rant about the mythos of Game of Thrones.
Now were really getting to the terrible heart of the gods of Game of Thrones. On the one hand you have the Lords of Ice (The White Walkers) and on the other hand you have the Lords of Fire (The Lord of Light plus the Dragons).

Both fire and ice are terrible and will kill you. One just wants you reanimated as a walking corpse. The other just wants to consume you with fire. So good options all around.

Also you still have the gods of the North represented by: The Old gods of the Forest (Sir Not Appearing in this Film), the Children of the Forest, the Weirwoods/creepy stalker tree person that Bran will soon be.

And finally you have the most powerful and quietest god in the Game of Thrones World. Death. It stalks both mortal and seemingly immortal alike.

No one really cares about the Seven.

So all around, as far as the mystical is concerned, you are fucked.
LOLOLOL Daenerys finally said fuck this shit I'm outta here.
I think it is gonna be most of the Nights Watch that stabs Snow just like in the books.
I was kind of hoping it wasn't going there since they diverged from other story lines. Given last nights episode I guess you are right.

It was that incident that made me not want to read anymore Martin books. It will be very dissapointing if that is the cliff hanger. Typically episode 10 is not full of cliff hangers but actually resolving things that happen in Ep 9. I prefer that method personally.

Don't for get the Drowned God which almost tries to kill you (or does) during baptism only to drown later... but he holds a party in the ocean at least.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Breand - 06-08-2015

I think I'm at a stage now where I feel like they need to slow the hell down with the show. I am frankly getting upset that they are now spoiling events in the books that have not happened yet. The Stannis event that happened last night is NOT in the books yet, and if you watch the "Inside the Episode" for this one, Benioff says in it that George told them it happens. So that's something that happens in Winds of Winter we don't know about yet. Some books fanatics are even considering starting a campaign to spoil the finale for people since Benioff and Weiss are now spoiling material for the book lovers.

I know George is entirely to blame, the pause between Feast and Dance was ridiculous considering he supposedly wrote both at the same time, and now its been 4 years since Dance was released. But it may be time to respect the gift the George has given HBO and Benioff/Weiss. If you consider The Sopranos, the last 3 seasons had huge gaps in production. Basically 18 months between some of the later seasons and a full 2 years for the final season. I think they need to consider doing that with Thrones. Or they break up the seasons into 5 episodes to slow it the hell down. People will be pissed for sure, but I think George deserves to finish the books on his terms. It is looking more and more likely that Winds of Winter will be out before the next season starts. If they wait 18 months on the next season, and hope that they have enough from WoW to cover it, then wait another 18 months for the final season, that gives George close to 2 1/2 years to finish A Dream of Spring. It's not impossible. If he doesn't get it done, then screw him, they gave him a chance. But I think he does deserve some more time.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Dharus - 06-08-2015

Well, i dont know what his financial plan is but i think he is risking his book sales. If readers get pissed, they dont bother with the books. I don't think they've gone overboard yet. The Sannis story was heading for trouble. How many kids did Martin torture, rape, etc in the books? I'm not surprised it happened but i think its pretty messed up. It was foreshadowed in the books. After next episode, i have a feeling next season viewship will drop due to emotional fatigue.

Fuck that noise - Fat Boy has had 20 years to finish the series and hasn't. The actors are already aging too quickly for the story as it is already. If Book Fanbois (who apparently just love descriptions of food for some reason) don't want to deal with spoilers they can just not watch. Once he sold his rights to a TV show, he lost his right to whine about it outpacing him.

Nothing like how old Meadow and the crappy Kid were after all the huge jumps and ridiculous waits during Sorpanos run.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Bach - 06-08-2015

For every book fan irritated by TV series spoilers there will be two more who buy the books because they watched the series. George has an agent and he doesn't have any intention of let George's profits lapse. What he needs to do is write faster and I'm sure HBO would provide him a staff of writers to get all of it done in a month if he agreed to it.

The advantage he has in not writing the books faster is that he is maintaining more control over the series.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Vllad - 06-09-2015

HBO isn't waiting so book readers better get used to the fact that the show is going to be out before the books. I suggest they start distancing themselves from the show if they want to avoid spoilers. Let's be honest, is ANYONE surprised by this? If Martin was your typical writer he would have finished the story in 2000.

Plus what do you think is going to happen to just show watchers if his next book comes out before next season? Their will be spoilers for them.

Quite frankly I am surprised Benioff and Weiss have stuck to the books as much as they have. I would have fixed Martin's failures not continued to expose them.

Re: HBO - Game of Thrones SPOILERS INSIDE. you have been war - Skelas - 06-09-2015

For me the issue is there needs to eventually be a payoff. The good guys need to win sometime. Now, you could make the case that there is no true 'good guy' in GoT, that it's a true story of shades of grey, but when was the last time there was a truly satisfying "our team won!' moment in this series? Joffrey dying at his wedding was the last moment that even approaches the 'good guys' winning. If Stannis ends up sacking Winterfell (the foreshadowing from the books suggests he doesn't, although Ramsay could have just been messing with John Snow's head) are you even truly for Stannis after he burns his daughter alive?

I like the grittiness, I like that anyone could die in this world at any time, but I think it's getting taken too far. I need a payoff every now and then, not just more savagery over and over again.

Throw me a bone dammit!

That's pretty much a given, I mean Ned was about the only one and he paid with his head for being a good guy.

Thats the real takeaway from this show - evil will always prevail, because good is dumb.
