Computer rebuild advice - Grunldesnapp - 01-28-2012

I have a six year old Alienware that i dont use anymore. The case is solid, the PS is solid and it is water cooled. I am thinking about building a new system using those components. However i have been out of touch with computer components for the last five years or so. I will be looking for a good MB, video card, wireless network card, RAM, sound, burner.........and i dont know if im missing anything. Anyone have some good ideas or a website i can check out.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi....you're my only hope.

im starting to feel old now.....

My personal preference is the I7 processors, and the Nvidia GTX video cards

you will probably need new cooler blocks if you are changing out parts, since the old ones probably won't fit. these are the metal blocks that clamp onto the cpu, video chip and/or bus interface chips (depending on which of them were watercooled in your old rig) and have 2 hoses attached, one for cool water in and one for heated water out.

there's a fair possibility that the video and bus interface water blocks will work with newer boards, but I would consider it unlikely that the one for the cpu will fit.

good point snow, and I know when I was looking for water cooling blocks for my GTX285 a while back, they were pretty pricey(like $100) and hard to find. May not be the case now though
