The great Favre debate!

In a game that was utterly meaningless. If the Pats were 14-1 instead of 15-0 going into that game no would have even watched it. The Pats still nearly lost that game.

Even if it had meaning it wasn't the Superbowl. All games in the NFL set you up to play in the one single game that matters. The Superbowl. Win the Superbowl and you are the best. There is no debate because this is the NFL and not college football where you debate who is the best.

If I used your logic the Steelers really only won two Superbowls in the 70's because clearly Oakland in 74 was the better team and Houston was the better team in 79.

In the 80's the best team of 87 and 90 were the 49ers not the Giants and Redskins. The Redkins and Giants had to get lucky to win those Superbowls. So really the 49ers won 4 straight Superbowls.

That is you college football fandom speaking. In the NFL the best team is decided on the field.

I don't disagree that in that given year probably the best two teams played for the championship. Again we will never know because it wasn't decided on the field. 2005 was the single time that maybe the BCS got it right in a long line of failed attempts.

Deciding it on the field would constitute playing a season where the goal is to win a conference to get to the playoffs. Then you win in the playoffs in order to get to the championship game. Finally you win the final game.

It won't be decided on the field until every conference sends its conference winner to a playoff series.

What if in 2005 we had a playoff and Texas had to play Ohio State again? West Virginia could have beaten USC or Texas that year. Penn State? TCU? There were 6 very good football teams if you thrown in LSU and Virginia Tech that year.

That is the problem. We will never know if your Texas team was the best. They didn't get a chance to prove it. The only thing we do know is they were better then USC.
