Well me too but I also know a lot with no fantasy/sci fi inklings who do like drivel like twilight and buffy.
I think at a certain mainstream level things don't necessarily give you nerd points:
For example watching the star wars movies does not necessarily give you nerd point
Knowing the name of the Wookie homeworld (or any expanded universe stuff) does.
Watching Lord of the Rings did not necessarily give you nerd points.
Knowing the tediously written mythology behind Sauran being a fallen angel or whatever does.
