Amazon buys Netflix in 3....2.....
Well maybe not. But their stock certainly took a dive.
The interesting thing to me is that Netflix streaming has a fantastic number of foreign films. I've seen more foreign films in the last year than I think I have during all previous years of my life. French movies, Norweigan movies, all sorts of movies out of Asia, and plenty of them have been great, if you don't mind the subtitles. I can only imagine that the problem with streaming is that American studios will not play ball. They're still milking DVD sales.
If Netflix can somehow swing a big movie streaming deal with a major American studio, I think we'd see their business turn right around. I think that's exactly what they want and they intend to dump DVD entirely if they can. The fact that they split it off still leads me to believe they have some sort of done deal in the works for streaming and we'll be hearing about it Soon.
And maybe the reason they did the split before the deal is to troll the market for a buyer. I'm sure Apple could buy them outright if they wanted.
