I suggest rereading it. My friend thought the same but because she is a minor character I think most people just go along with HBO.
[spoiler]She goes from "you will give her a baby and come back to me", to trial, to Tywins room. There, tyrion asks if she ever loved him and she pleds she did blaming his sister and father. However she was wearing a gold necklace of hands which symbolized she got paid. Then tyrion recited the poem the bard wrote, "hands of gold are always cold but a women's hands are warm. To me that means gold doesn't buy love. Remember, Tyrion wonders about the bard and Shae being together. That's not even in HBO.[/spoiler]
