Just upgraded to an SSD

Using programming logic...well that statement would fail a cold hard logic test since an SSD is a flash drive.

You are creating an argument because you didn't add an additional identifier by saying "USB" flash drive or "thumb" flash drive which is just an additional language component and very little to do with the tech. You called something a hamburger when there is a slice of cheese on it. I was following the direction of the thread, you jumped in and only responded to the first post when we had all moved on. That's why quotes are helpful. I'm an electrical engineer who works in an IT environment, and we use "flash drives" interchangeably. No one has ever said, "install this SSD in that server." Just like we have never said "install this HDD in that server" for the 13 years I've been here. No one says that. We mainly call it a flash drive to distinguish it between an HDD or simply a drive. We call USB flash drives "thumb drives" or a "USB stick." Maybe it's different in your part of the country.

Well you are in a giant minority, because I've never heard of SSD's being refered to as 'flash drives'. Do a google search for flash drive and see what comes up.

As Slamz mentioned, Flash drives are made by any and everyone and a good number of them are complete dogshit. I've had ones less than a month old (from purchase date) fall apart in my hands before. There is a reason why most retail companies give away flash drives, so many are made and cant be sold they literally have to give them away to get them out of inventory. I dunno about you, but anything thats being given away to make room I probably wouldnt trust my ONLY backup on for sure.

However doing your research and buying from a quality brand (I buy Patriot ones, w/rubber coatings so it doesnt get squashed/dropped) certain evens the odds some. DVD's are no different. You buy shit like Memorex, Dynex or housebrand you are gambling with your backup. The difference between flash drive & optical is that I can still get some data off a damaged disc, cant say the same for a damaged flash drive. I dunno where you live or work, but environmental conditions arent a factor in a fireproof safe kept indoors or a safety deposit box. I tested backups from 10 years ago that still work just dandy. Plus, for me and my clients at least, harder to misplace or lose a disc (or set of discs) than it is a small little 2 inch stick.
