So I finally got the chance to watch it and all in all I find it just lacking something I can't put my finger on. I should be left dying to see the next season begin. But truth be told I pretty much feel I can wait no problem. It was a very meh kind of story season with some great action mixed in. Mostly I think the writers need to develop something less yo-yo like.
So Danny seems to finally get her city under control...then almost everybody dies.
Jamie connects with his daughter....then she dies.
Stanis, after giving up everything he has gets his chance at Winterfell...and everybody dies
Jon rescues and proves himself to the wildlings and the Night King....and then he dies.
Sansa and Reek finally fight back....and then the both jump off a cliff.
Arya finally becomes an assassin and makes a great kill....and then she goes blind.
Cerci gets totally humiliated by the Seven and the townsfolk.....and nobody dies??? But she gets a pet Zombie.
Are these ALL supposed to be storyline cliffhangers leaving me on the edge of my seat? There is like no promise of anything to come. Not a smidgen of a Zombie Mountain bashing Seven heads, no dragon army for Danny or anything promising to really look forward too. I think they have hit that stage where the writers feel they don't need to give us anything. They already own us and will take their time deciding what we can have next.
All I can say is this. This Spring I paid money to watch Black Sails and just watched GoT for free a day later in my hotel room. Damned glad I paid for the right one.
