At home on wifi? The city of Pittsburgh has wifi in the entire downtown area for free. Every McDonalds has free wifi. Every coffee shop in the city has free wifi. Every hotel has free wifi (for customers). Hell, it's hard NOT to find free wifi in this town.
As for using it at home instead of a laptop...it's a different dynamic. It's easier to use it in the living room and still be part of the family conversation. It's easier to pass around.
