My therapist made me do it...
I actually had a very similar thought when I saw it too. Too funny!

I love that pic too Grieve. What a capture of the true joy. Makes me think of when mine were little.
At $1500 a pop this will be a gadget looking for a popular / market that will mainstream and drop the prices. I will say that the concept of needing a new interface / device is right on the mark. Everyone seems to be working on the "next big thing" and I think a radical change in the interface is next. It could be something like glasses, or electronic paper.
Right now everyone is just repackaging the same old stuff. when will we see a "Iron man" or "Minority report" like interface change?

Interesting concept video for augmented reality with Google Glass (although the company does seem to actually have software that does some of this).

I think it's supposed to come off as awesome and cool, but it come off more as creepy and stalker-ish. Not sure a world where people are reading your Facebook profile and analyzing your voice patterns while talking to you is a good one. Although I'm sure interviewers will love then, as well as traffic cops ("so...you were just throwing back shots at the bar down the street?") and serial killers ("so...you just moved into town, don't know anyone, and live all alone?")

I guess in this augmented reality, all women are easy? I mean, he pulled the are you a gemini from his glasses, which immediately convinced her that all he has to do is ask her to come over and she's at his house.
I'm guessing the technology to do all that it shows in the video is like... 20 years off at best? I mean I'm sure some of it could be done now... but not in a package as small and discreet as those glasses, and nowhere near the response time that it has in the video. Google glass is already doing some of it, but even google glass makes you look like a complete tool.

No, I'd say more like 3-5 years. All this technology is around now, including facial recognition and voice analysis apps (including from this company) for Google Glass. Like you say, it's the regular-looking glasses that is the big trick. I can't imagine that's too many years off.
And Google is already working on embedding the same concept in contact lenses - even that is probably only ten years off. The glucose sensing lenses they just announced for diabetics is from the same group working on that.
