Is he coming back? Is he not?
Should I bother going to New Orleans this year to watch the Vikings get beat again if Favre isn't there?

If Favre is the worst thing to happen to you then you have it easy.
I have been stuck with Jamarcus (Baconfat) Rusell for the last 3 years. He was the worst quarterback I have seen play since I watched my first NFL game in 1966.

College ball just doesn't appeal to me. No way to determine who is "the best" other than opinion. And there's not even an attempt at parity between teams, it's just about the money. Ok so supposedly it's about the education but I think we all know better than that.

LOL, ok so at least I know you're alive! LOL! But in all seriousness, I don't know who the Vikings will use as a QB is Favre doesn't play. Is their next in line any good?

I can't make myself give a shit about NFL teams. Going to Texas games live was fucking great.. NFL games were fucking boring live, they manage to pump even more extended TV breaks into them. Plus the overtime rules are about the gayest thing in the world.
I suppose it helps that I went to a dominant football University. Had I gone to, say Duke, I probably wouldn't care.
Although I would say the super bowl doesn't always prove "whose best" either... I wouldn't claim a 10-6 Giants was better than the 18-1 pats (although it was awesome, as my one emotional tie to NFL is carrying over my hatred of the Red Sox to the other faggy Boston team and their douchebag hoodie wearing coach).

Errr Vllad is a raiders fan.. how horrible is that. My old roommate is a raiders fan and I laughed and laughed and laughed when Sir Tom Brady tucked that ball in and they won the game. Oh and living in San diego makes me really hate raiders fans even more cause all those band wagon gangsta wanna bes are now chargers fans and the chargers blow too.
Go Pats!!!

Also - college football is mostly on saturday which makes it a far better day to stay in the bar and get wasted all day watching football than most NFL days wherey ou have to work the next day.

That is why College Football = Ice Skating.
Any sport that requires a judge to determine the winner is broken by default. It is irrelevant whether it is entertaining. It is still broken.

Yes it does prove it. The Giants where better because they beat the Pats on the field when it mattered. Being 18-0 is irrelevant. The only record that matters is what happens on the field during the Superbowl. 16-0 only got you home field advantage. being 2-0 in the playoffs only earned them the right to play in the Superbowl. To be the best you not only have to get there but you have to win it. How could you possibly claim that the Pats were better when they lost the most important game of the year? IF they were the best team they wouldn't have lost.
You will never get to see that in College Football.
I get enough of the essense of College Football when I watch Gymnastics or Ice Skating in the Olympics.

Against a team they beat by a bigger margin a few games earlier.

Texas USC rose bowl was indisputably the best 2 teams in college and far superior to any Super Bowl in recent memory. But yes, the BCS is shit. Even with the shit, I have never actually looked forward to an NFL sunday whereas every NCAA Saturday was a get together until I moved to a shitty time zone.

The Vikings are getting much better....they've actually figured out how to make their draft selections in time. That must be a step in the right direction.
Too many games to fit in signature....

They should draft another quarterback with a female name like Fran.

In a game that was utterly meaningless. If the Pats were 14-1 instead of 15-0 going into that game no would have even watched it. The Pats still nearly lost that game.
Even if it had meaning it wasn't the Superbowl. All games in the NFL set you up to play in the one single game that matters. The Superbowl. Win the Superbowl and you are the best. There is no debate because this is the NFL and not college football where you debate who is the best.
If I used your logic the Steelers really only won two Superbowls in the 70's because clearly Oakland in 74 was the better team and Houston was the better team in 79.
In the 80's the best team of 87 and 90 were the 49ers not the Giants and Redskins. The Redkins and Giants had to get lucky to win those Superbowls. So really the 49ers won 4 straight Superbowls.
That is you college football fandom speaking. In the NFL the best team is decided on the field.
Jakensama Wrote:Texas USC rose bowl was indisputably the best 2 teams in college and far superior to any Super Bowl in recent memory. But yes, the BCS is shit.
I don't disagree that in that given year probably the best two teams played for the championship. Again we will never know because it wasn't decided on the field. 2005 was the single time that maybe the BCS got it right in a long line of failed attempts.
Deciding it on the field would constitute playing a season where the goal is to win a conference to get to the playoffs. Then you win in the playoffs in order to get to the championship game. Finally you win the final game.
It won't be decided on the field until every conference sends its conference winner to a playoff series.
What if in 2005 we had a playoff and Texas had to play Ohio State again? West Virginia could have beaten USC or Texas that year. Penn State? TCU? There were 6 very good football teams if you thrown in LSU and Virginia Tech that year.
That is the problem. We will never know if your Texas team was the best. They didn't get a chance to prove it. The only thing we do know is they were better then USC.

Maul, you don't get to comment until your state gets at least one major league team. I don't care which sport, just one team. Hell, we've got Chad Greenway, support your former hawkeye!

It'd be Tavaris Jackson, who I personally think is going to be pretty good someday, he just got thrown to the wolves too early in his career. These two years of Favre (note my use of two years) are going to do him a world of good.

College football needs to learn from its little brother college basket ball. Football should copy them and do a huge tourney. I would watch that for sure.

A huge tournament would be idiotic in college football and make the normal season as useless and boring as the NFL normal season. Not to mention it would take too long since you can't reasonably schedule more than 1 football game a week and your not going to get them to do 5 or 6 playoff games.
16 teams is the max reasonable, and even thats pushing it.. Realistically it should be 8 teams and the BCS could be used to pick the top 8 and seed it..
Anyway Favre sucks and should go away. And learn to spell his name properly.

Hey I have a voice! I grew up in Chicago and have been a Bear fan since the late 60's. Just cause I live in Iowa for 20 yeas doesn't mean I leave behind my roots.
BTW, how many super bowls have Vikings won? I forget.

Sure, because Texas vs. Florida Atlantic or Georgia vs. North Dakota State are so exciting. Do you really look forward to those 62-6 games? Half of all college football games are irrelevant. The talent differencial is worse then baseball. At least in the NFL the talent between teams is so close that anyone can beat anyone else on any given day.
You can have a tournament in college football that would dwarf March Madness.
8 conferences. 10 game schedule that is in conference only. 1 conference championship game. Winner of each conference goes to the play off. 3 game play off to determine a winner.
Technically the winner could be decided around Thanksgiving. Certainly before winter break.
If you truly want every game to matter you have to allow only the conference winner into the play off and play only conference games during the year. No wild cards, no rankings, no BCS, and no powder puff games.

I would prefer to shrink the size of division one and do fewer conferences, because right now it would be absolute bullshit to have a playoff where the 2nd SEC or Big 12 team is left out but the Big East or Mountain West winner goes.
Shrink the size of division I and then do conferences and round robins and all that. You can do it like soccer does here and promote/demote teams from the first division to/from the first devision and all so you have to stay competitive to stay up top.

Hey Vllad, I know you are trying to make a point, but mess with my Stillers at your own risk. We take our team seriously here in Pittsburgh dammit!
Now only were we actually the best through the 70s, but we are STILL THE BEST. The only reason other teams get to play in the Superbowl is that we feel bad for them and LET THEM.
