One idea: if you're interested in playing solo-ish for the challenge of it, I could set up the server and the rule is that anyone who wants to can play and basically pretend it's a solo game but with the idea that if you get really screwed for something, you can probably get what you need from someone else. e.g., day 340 and Vllad still has no auger he can probably get one from Arsilon. Might be a step up over playing literally solo but you still can get the challenge of it. Granted you might end up competing over looting the same towns but then you don't really need every car radiator in the world for your solo play.
Just a thought.
(Not sure if I would join in, at least immediately. We'd need to reset the server with more solo-friendly settings and a new map.)

Sure you can reset it. Vlad could tell you the settings.

I have no idea what settings would be required for Solo, so far my solo play throughs have all failed while trying to do it on difficult settings.
Maybe just keep it the same and see if it is possible to solo play at all?

Here is what I am thinking.
Everything we keep the same but we turn EXP up to 300% and the respawn rate of 15 days.
Thoughts?

Sounds fine to me. Blood moons probably need to be set back up to be 1 +(0-5) days. Or just at the standard 7 days.

For soloing it has to be 7 days, I have tried more and you don't have enough time to get anything done.
Fresh map, no allies, that way you don't know where each other is. I think this solo thing may work.
No giving up your locations either.
Does the above make sense Slamz?

Rough first night.
Got myself stuck in a death loop. I found a place to live. Saw sign's someone else was around the area. The problem I found is when you die underground, near your bed, and you hit "spawn near your bed" you end up spawning underground again. The problem was unground meant 10 ft from where I died. So... had to beat things to death with my fist by dying repeatedly until everything was cleared. Tough way to clear a building but it was accomplished.
Lesson learned, this is the cost of having a bed below ground level.

This solo thing has been brutal but I have enjoyed it. I wouldn't try these settings in a solo game but so far so good on our new server. I know most people wouldn't play with these settings solo.
Getting any thing seems like a step forward. We are on day 14 and it seemed like a huge thing to actually be able to build my first work bench. Dying is so brutal. Still have stone tools, no weapons, have to scrounge for every little thing.
We have obviously gotten pretty good with this game that I have made progress with only a stone shovel/axe plus a wood club. My favorite face palm moment came last night.
I got my first drop, I was hoping for a weapon. Their was a bow in the box, the problem was they packed crossbow bolts to come with the bow.
Day 14 and I have no grill, no beaker, no tools except one broken wrench that isn't stone, no anvil, crucible or bellows.

This is by far my best solo start. Maybe I just have a better idea now or it's just easier to focus when you're still technically online with other people.
My base is basically a 1x1 hut on a country road that I took over on my first night just so I could get on the roof and be safe from night zombies.
Now my routine is:
Daylight - try to get as much done as I can. Usually running fetch or digger missions from the trader. I try to do the fetches by knocking holes in the wall to get straight to the fetch item and get out. I don't go poking around inside buildings but loot what I can from outside (more holes in more walls... especially the kitchens). Had pretty good luck so far finding animals to kill and some eggs. I buy whatever I can from the trader and his vending machine so I have decent clothes and enough food.
Night - Go back to my hovel and dig. I have a small underground area carved out now. Struck nitrite, iron and a little bit of coal. That's where the bulk of my XP has come from: night mining. If a zombie bothers me I can get on my roof and kill him or shoot him through openings around my doors.
Mining really seems to be where it's at. You need it anyway, it's great XP and you can be mining in relative comfort and safety if you put a roof over your head and a decent defensive door setup. I mostly work in flagstone since it's easy to make from mining (rock+clay) though you could build in metal if you were mostly mining iron. I also mine if it's raining super hard and too cold to go out without spending a lot of food.
I got a bellows, a pot and a grill but no crucible, beaker or anvil. I'm able to use an iron pick now that I can (so far) keep repaired. I loot every trash bag and birds nest I see! I had a wrench but lost it in my 1 death.

I actually have a real place to live in with walls surrounding it. It took a death loop to get it cleared but it was worth the effort. You just have to be creative with spikes. Create ways to let them do some of the killing for you. Plus I found that the clubs have range to them. They aren't like punching things. You can dig openings in through walls and beat on things with clubs and spears without being beat on through those gaps.
I actually make an effort to clear what I can in buildings. If it is too much I run away. The Buss can still do the job, just not always by itself. I find the partially destroyed buildings are the way to go. They have a lot of resources with typically only one zombie. I am terribly short on weapons but have been doing fine without them. I found I can run down a deer and kill it with the buss.
Last night I made my first Meat Stew! Not sure I can sustain it but what a difference it makes to be able to eat real food.
Tonight I should be mobile!
Still no crucible, beaker, anvil, grill or bellows. I found one level 1 iron pick and but that won't last long. I can probably make a level 2 pick but duct-tape is an issue. I don't want to make glue without a chem station. It eats bone like crazy to do that.
The town I live in really does suck. Not many buildings in it for a 4x4 town. At this point things should start to respawn though. Trailer parks are resource rich with little effort and they are typically in every town except the one I chose.
I have enough resources to get by with minimal weapons so it proves you can survive on very little with some patience. Once I am mobile I can expand my farm much easier and start to save my coin for better weapons.

Had a harrying couple of nights but avoided dying, barely. Was all setup for the blood moon, having made a lower platform to stand on, off the side of a water tower, ready to lob pipe bombs and use my junk turret to farm some XP. Spitter knocked out the very floor piece I was standing on and dumped me on top of the horde. I actually got out of that without too much trouble but then spend the entire blood moon night running, not quite able to shake the last zombies. I was throwing pipe bombs at my feet as I ran to try and kill or knock down the ones on my ass but mostly I stuck to running around the mountains where zombies have a harder time keeping up (rough terrain fouls them up as they have to jump more).
Got back to my place around dawn, used my setup there to kill a couple zombies. Then a mini-horde spawned like 30 meters away so I basically said "fuck that" and went out to do a mission.
Mission was at the Bates Hotel which is actually a great spot for loot. I don't think any of the hotel rooms have any zombies in them. There is a ladder that goes underground that I've never been in and the attached house has zombies but I was able to clear just enough to get my fetch item and beat feet as the ruckus woke up more zombies.
Got back to my place and the horde was partially still there? Ended up killing one zombie with my last couple of blunderbuss shots and then stabbing him in the face through an opening but the next one tore open a hole and I ended up rodeoing him around in the dark for ages, unable to entirely shake him for quite a while.
Finally got back and settled into mining. Dug up some more coal so I could get some more pipe bombs and blunderbuss shot made.
I have a rank 3 iron pick I'm keeping in repair and I looted a good iron axe but otherwise no new tools. Still need a wrench or preferably two.

Slamz,
With your bucket discovery, do you know if water blocks take damage like other blocks?
If not does that mean we can build motes?

I think from what we've seen in pools and so forth, water blocks don't take damage but they will flow out if the blocks containing them get destroyed. I have never actually tossed a stick of dynamite into a pool to see what happens, though. I guess the question is what, exactly, a moat accomplishes. Presumably the zombies would fall into it and then just bash their way back up out of it. Maybe you can drown them?

I know from experience that zombies move much slower in water, i.e., they just can't jump out of it they have to crawl out. Early in our other games I would rodeo blood moons by them since they couldn't swim. They would pursue me through the water however. Moats would make things like Boomers easier to deal with since it prevents the flopping around.
Imagine Arsilon's shotgun design only the outside is filled with Water. Now when they jump in the pit you have them slowed down inside the moat so you can get better aimed shots. They will still pursue you through the water. Plus once they are all in one group in theory they will stay all in one group. I wonder what happens when you throw a bomb at them while in water? Is the Rag doll effect tamed as well?
It also opens up the possibility of creating a shotgun base with very little cement. Most importantly, I don't think they can jump on each others shoulders while in water.
Moats have the possibility to have the cheapest way (in cement, steel and gun powder) to deal with hordes.

I've been playing with the Darkness Falls mod lately. I'm really liking it. The class system at first seems like it would be restrictive, but it isn't since all the necessary things like workbenches and such are in the common skill pool. So it's even better than the base game in that sense since it doesn't require you to dump a bunch of your points into intelligence at the start of the game.
If you think about trying it, copy out your 7 Days 18.4 folder to it's own location before v19 drops so that you can mod the 18.4 version.
