Must be Powerflux getting to me.
I looked at the website for WOW a little bit more today.

Okay, well, I guess I'll have to buy this game when it comes out. One of the playable races is Undead. Playing as a zombie is just bizarre enough that I can already tell I'll have to do it. But only if I can shamble and type things like "brraaaaainnnns".
What I want to know:
The races are divided into two teams, the Horde and the Alliance. Does this mean anything whatsoever in the game, or can we expect to see paladins and undead grouping together to kill dwarves?
And if I do see paladins and undead grouping together, what server can I play on that will allow me to kill both of them with my bare hands?

Then again, as Dustie mentioned, zombies and paladins teaming up to kill dwarves pretty much describes every team game of WC3 online.
So I guess that's okay then.

I don't believe the two "teams" can group with each other. They don't even speak the same language in-game I've read somewheres.

Ah, so more like DAOC, then.
That could be cool.
Apparently if WOW looks bad and SWG still hasn't put in any "Star Warsieness", DAOC itself may be worth checking out again. I hear it's quite the PvP game these days.

Ya I have heard the same. Never did play it though.
I've been a forum hound over at Sigil Games Online, Brad McQuaid's new project for awhile. They are taking everything that made EQ good and making it better. It's still a few years off but the community is pretty tight knit atm and the devs post a lot over there. I like it.
I'm definitely checking out WoW unless I'm studying for Dental School by that time.

Taking the bad out of EQ would leave you with a dragon-raiding PVE game but without the 4-hour "get-ready" part. PvP in EQ was bad, so I take it that means they'd take that out too =)
------------
DAOC does kick ass nowadays, I reactivated my account. The level grind is still neccessary unlike SWG, but it goes by alot faster than EQ, and especially as a melee, the fighting is more fun since you don't just hit attack and sit there. And they rebalanced all the combat styles so there's actually reason to use something other than Hurricane and DoubleFrost now.
Mythic is sticking to the origonal plan of never putting in "uber items", which makes it impossible to ever go back to EQ once you quit. There's still 'good' gear but it's little difference except for adding a few more HP or a handful of stats that are in the 100s by default. 16.5dps weapons are still the cap for level 51(a level only achievable by PvPers, bl00bs be damned), and the AC of your armor is still 102 at 51, and that hasn't changed since release. The realm abilities(kinda like EQ aa's) are great, and again, only achieved by PvP kill points, which you arent gonna get killing dragons, deamons, or badgers.
With the addition of the battlegrounds(which are like single-zone King of the hill areas), you can start PvPing at 20(a 20-24bg, 25-29bg, and 30-34bg) now and not have to worry about getting waxed constantly by level 50 stealthers from other realms. You also get exp for all PvP kills now, so theoretically you could level from 20-50 purely in PvP, although that would be slower than dirt since I can't imagine being able to PvP people as quickly and readily as a good group can do mobs.
They just revamped all the Keep models(to make both keep attack and defence more fun, and ranging on different levels of the keep, instead of just a battle over that 1st door that it used to be) and siege engines to give them more meaning, and after Atlantis(the expansion due out within the month(and yes it's ready for realease unlike SOME games we know)), the following expansion is a pure RvR(PvP for those not familar with DAOC lingo) expansion.
----------------------
WOW online might be nice. So it DOES have PvP afterall? Hmm, might have to check it out if it's any good.

Hey Veraphim,
How long do you get to reactivate your DAOC account after you cancel? I finally got around to deactivating my account last month but if folks are back playing, I might give it a go again. Are you still playing Flawless or did you switch characters and/or servers?
I'm definitely going to give WoW a try when it comes out.
Ironically, playing SWG has made me want to get back into a Tolkienesque MORPG, with elves, and magic, and all that stuff.

Have you been paying for an idle DAOC account for, uh, 2 years?

Nah,
Well, paying for the account, but it wasn't really idle for two years.
Before we started playing AC2, I was still logging on to DAOC a couple of times a week. I'd log on, pop into the frontiers to shoot arrows at some players, shoot a few arrows at trees for exp, then log off. Xanit was still a guild the last time I logged on and I actually hooked up a couple of times with guildmates. Heck, I even saw Flawless on once. I thought DAOC was a decent game but there just wasn't enough people I knew playing.
Mostly, though, I was just feeding my online Jones until Shadowbane was released and we could unleash Purgare full force. I really didn't stop playing DAOC completely until I moved in June. That's when I installed a new HD in prep for Planteside and SWG.
I thought for sure SWG was going to at least hold my interest for a little longer than it did so I finally deactivated my DAOC account when SWG was released.
So, see, I only payed for an inactive account for 5 months.
Actually, I probably would never have deactivated the account if I hadn't lost the DAOC gamedisks in the move.

I logged in Flawless a bit when I reactivated. But hardly knew anyone there anymore.
Keetz(Amberle) moved to Igraine so I did to. Have a Elf Eldrich that I'm leveling up now.
My DAOC account was inactive for about a year, I don't think they ever delete characters.
