Yeah I remember you =)

SB kinda fell through and ended up not being what the magority of us were after. We're playing Star Wars Galaxies right now, and it's pretty fun.

The city-building IMO is better than SB, where your average city was a tree, a guildhall, a weapon shop, a bank, and 7 barraks all crammed into one small walled area with nothing else for miles.
In SWG, cities are expansive, with factories, shops, and oftentimes a seperate house for almost every member. Stretches of terrain outside of a player-build city is dotted with rows of power generators, farms and mining equipment. You really get a feel that there is a 'point' to the land even if you haven't seen a creature for the past 3 minutes, whereas in SB you'd walk for miles across a NO-BUILD zone and see absolutely nothing.

Feel free to check out the game. There isn't a Purgare guild in there right now, but perhaps in the future.

www.swgcenter.com has all the skill trees and such

We're all imperial though, so I suggest a human. Non-humans get penalties on faction perks (like having a Stormtrooper pet costs a Mon Calamari 3x as much as a human).

I would hesitate to suggest which skill trees are the best, because a lot of stuff is still being balanced (and probably always will be).

Ok, let me see if I got this... This game is pretty similar to AO..
1. pick a profession(i am thinking fencer, so brawler)
2. get exp/money(take missions and use 1 handers)
3. get faction(take imperial missions)

...is that about it? I know I need to branch out from brawler...Is this game pretty simple to pick up and learn? Is it hard to screw up a character? Does the team need any particular classes? I pretty much like all classes. I usually pick the one that no one else wants to be to round out the group. hehe I only picked fencer b/c I have not been a melee in a long time. Is there anything I should stay away from? I can't wait to get back to gaming. I have been going insane over here. sand, sand, and more sand.

When you get the game, take Novice -everything-. Then you can try it all, and drop what you don't like. Grumps is a fat dancing chef.. 8)

You can't goof up a character unless you are too stubborned to detrain. You can surrender skills you have already gotten and get the skill points back.

So, to sum up...

Get all of the beginner skill trees. Play the game making sure to use the skills that you want to advance (such as 1h sword). You will see the skill tree fill up with xp as you earn the appropriate experience. Untrain unused skills when the time comes.

What happened to me was I bought certain skill trees expecting to focus on them and then I found out that other areas were more fun and spent my time using them. Don't limit yourself early on because there is no penalty for untraining skills (except lost skill XP in the skill you are untraining) and you have plenty of skill points to start with. When you start to climb the skill trees they become more expensive, but early on there is plenty of room for experimentation.

This game rocks. There's bugs and balance issues and it needs more content, but in terms of gameplay I think it blows Everquest clear out of the water. I just love that the PvP (Galactic Civil War) is not only built into the game, but is becoming more central to the game in The Big Patch.

I actually bought a second account, cause I'm a big geek, so now I have a rifleman/swordsman teamed up with a dancer/medic. I'm thinking of making him a Doctor/Chef with basic entertainer skills.

Rifles aren't as good as I'd like, but melee rocks and is a ton of fun. You have to make some real gut wrenching decisions about what skills you want and when to wear armor. I started out my first character as a medic, artisan, brawler, marksman, rifleman, swordsman, scout, artisan, chef and have since had to back off of chef and artisan, most of scout and some of medic so that I could have the skill points to specialize in Rifleman and Swordsman. There's no harm in picking up every single starting profession and just sticking with what you like the most.
