I'm leaning toward either something from Remmington or Mossberg. I know the pump models pretty well but not really seen much press/videos about semi-auto versions. I only ever see Benelli when semi-autos are mentioned.

A co-worker (huge time shooter & ex-Army) said that for home defense that a 20 gauge is going to be a lethal as a 12. So it would have less recoil plus able to hold more rounds, right? I hadnt considered that. Plus I guess if you have a semi auto that can fire pretty fast with lower recoil you can just pepper someone pretty good so first shot doesnt have to be as lethal.

How does 20 gauge ammo cost compare to 12? I was sorta leaning to a 12 because the available of everything would be beter/more popular.

Any reason to get a 18.5 barrel if I dont think the ATF is going to be fucking with me measuring my barrel to be legal?

I know you can shoot pumps fairly fast with practice, but it seems like if the semi-autos are super reliable these days why bother with pump? Plus it would be easier to shoot with weak hand or if you were incapacitated in any fashion. Someone pointed out that if you dont keep a shell chambered that the pull back would simulate racking sound as well. Either way anyone who is in my home is lucky if they get a warning (by way of racking sound)

I have my family heirloom Remmington Wingmaster 870 pump 27" that I am probably going to use to trade for something in semi-auto. I know the Wingmasters were the 'Cadillac' of the 870 models and this gun is in tip-top shape. Any estimates on what I could fetch for it? Its probably shot less than 1k rounds in its life and made in 60's or 70's.]]>

The above is actually people who know what they are doing and while not the best technitians it does pretty much show what fights end up looking like. It certainly isn't hollywood. Most sparing video's with professionals always look pretty but when the fights commence this is more what it looks like. This video is real fighting just with tempered weops. I have seen these real fights and obviously their are some people way better than others from a technique perspective the only real difference is how quickly a death blow would come.

Another really good video on heavy armor fighting with swords. This entire series is historically based. Like most non military fighting of the period most combat resembles wrestling when it comes to plate armor fights. How it was implemented in mass combat is something entirely different.

If any of you had to do the whole "My first Pistol!" over again, what would you guys get? Am I deluding myself into thinking a cheaper gun is the better way to start the hobby? Or should I just bite the bullet (figuratively speaking) and get something like a Sig P226?

My current boots are a desert military combat boot that have been real nice. The issues I have with them is they have a soft, running type sole which has worn out and cracked at the instep, and since they are made for the desert, they leak water like a sieve.

So, for general, all purpose outdoor work/hunting/mucking about I am thinking the features I would like are waterproof, steel toe, 10inch high, leather, lace up, and hard lug soles. It seems like logging boots have those features, but they usually have a very high heel, which looks like garbage to me personally. The challenge is to find a nice boot company and then figure out how to get their logging boot without the heel. There are also a few combat style boots that work as well.

I voted for the Colt .45 ACP due to its superior impact/takedown and the fact that last I was aware Marine Force Recon guys choose it as well. Where as stock Marines are issued the 9mm. If the guys who are doing the killing choose to use one over the other than I tend to follow their lead.

I am curious to see how the Purge folk feel about this one.
I don't hunt deer with a .22 why would I try and kill a bad guy with one? Same goes for the 9mm. I would rather take down what I am shooting at with fewer shots. In an adrenaline rushed environment wounded guys are still dangerous.. I would rather hit them once and put them down. The whole firepower vs. ammo capacity argument I guess.
